King Charles’ coronation is fast approaching, and with so many details bound to intrigue and delight royal fans, the question of what crowns might be worn on this special day is particularly fascinating.
After months of speculation, Queen Camilla’s coronation crown has been confirmed, and His Majesty will follow tradition by being crowned with St. Edward’s Crown, like royalty for centuries.
Although it is not only the King and Queen Consort who may be seen wearing grand headdresses—Princess Charlotte could be honored with a special crown at King Charles’ coronation.
This could be the first time she ever wears a tiara, if tradition is followed.
And if the Sussexes attend, we may see Meghan Markle wear two crowns during the ceremony, while Princess Charlotte may be honored with a tiara of her own on May 6.
Coronations are occasions when royals and peers around the world wear royal crowns. These crowns contain design details specific to certain ranks, including Marquis, Duke, and Viscount.
Royals have crowns too, although they are usually only worn during coronations—meaning not many of us get to see them wear these traditional tiaras.
Among them is seven-year-old Princess Charlotte, who could be honored with a tiara of her own at her grandfather’s coronation.
Given that Prince William is first in the royal line of succession, if Princess Charlotte wears a tiara at the coronation ceremony, it makes sense for her to wear the tiara set by royal warrant for the sons and daughters of the heir apparent.
This was the same crown assigned to her aunt, Meghan Markle, when she married Prince Harry in 2018.
According to the royal family website, at the time, King Charles was still Prince of Wales and Crown Prince himself, which meant his children and their spouses were entitled to that particular crown.
The design of this beautiful crown consists of two pattée crosses, four fleurs-de-lis, and two strawberry leaves.
