OMG! William And Catherine SURPRISE King Charles With New Arrangement Has Fans In A Tizzy
The Royal Family’s Adelaide Cottage, nestled within the lush 655-acre Windsor estate, has been home to the Wales family ever since their move from London in 2022. This Grade II-listed gem, originally built for Queen Adelaide, offers a more grounded and green upbringing for Charlotte, Louie, and their older brother, Prince George. While their previous abode, Kensington Palace, screamed opulence with its 20-room grandeur, underfloor heating, encrypted Wi-Fi, a TV projector, and a panic room, Adelaide Cottage is a step toward simplicity.
Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, have embraced this Windsor country home as a special place for the family. Although small and quaint, with only four bedrooms—which is very modest for a royal residence—Adelaide Cottage has become the Wales Family Home, where they enjoy complete privacy, far from the public eye. The family’s ability to come and go without being overlooked makes the downsize from Kensington Palace worth it on every level.
For official matters, Kensington Palace remains the official residence of the Prince and Princess of Wales. They have an expansive apartment within the grand palace but rarely use it. It was previously reported that HRH spent some post-surgical recovery time at the Windsor property earlier this year. However, the family recently moved to Anmer Hall, a larger residence, for added space.
Any renovations at Adelaide Cottage would typically be taxpayer-funded, but the Prince of Wales is reportedly hesitant to proceed due to potential public scrutiny. Plans are said to include restoring a rundown brick annex near the cottage as a retreat for the future queen and their staff. This quiet, spacious annex building next to Adelaide Cottage is currently inhabitable and would require extensive renovations to be functional.
Originally built in 1831 for King William IV’s wife, the consort’s namesake cottage was fully renovated by William and Catherine in 2015. It has long been rumored that this restoration included gilded dolphin and rope designs adorning the master bedroom walls.
The renovation project has been put on hold due to the family’s current circumstances, but it may be revisited in the future. William, mindful of public opinion regarding royal spending, is considering how best to fund any updates.
Adelaide Cottage, with its cozy, historical charm, contrasts sharply with their previous life in bustling London. Gone are the multiple reception rooms, dressing rooms, and dedicated nurseries. While they’ve kept Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, they now prefer the seclusion and simplicity of Windsor.
