“Low IQ Angel Reese trying to spit knowledge in 2024?”: Sky rookie faces fans trolls over podcast venture

Angel Reese is now adding her name to the long list of basketball stars with a podcast. The Chicago Sky rookie announced her new show titled “Unapologetically Angel,” which will air weekly every Thursday starting on September 5.

The podcast will be under Playmaker HQ which also handles other basketball personalities’ shows such as “The Big Podcast” by Shaquille O’Neal, “The OGs Show” by Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller and the “Roommates Show” by Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart.

Reese expressed her excitement about it on X as she basks in her superstardom following a successful year with LSU in college and her first season in the WNBA.

“💞SO EXCITED FOR THIS!,” said Reese.

However, some fans were not pleased with Reese’s new podcast venture citing that she is not qualified to talk about the sport because of her various perceived weaknesses on the court.

“Low IQ angel reese trying to spit knowledge in 2024? Lmao,” said one fan.

“Angel Reese is overrated, there I said it!,” said another fan.

“She can do everything but make a damn layup,” wrote one fan.

Meanwhile, some fans were intrigued about Reese’s move but also took jabs at Reese’s credibility as a podcaster.

“She’s unfairly been given the villain character. When you step into the podcast space, it welcomes more of that type of energy. Interesting move,” said another fan.

“Love when players have their own podcast and shit but as a rookie I’d just keep my head down and keep working on my game but get your money I guess,” said another fan.

Others could not help but compare Reese to her rookie rival Caitlin Clark who has been in a tight race with her for this season’s WNBA Rookie of the Year award.

“The gap between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark is going to stay a big gap because Caitlin’s life is basketball…Angel’s life is not basketball…Luckily for her she has the looks and passion to get bags other ways,” said one fan.

Angel Reese’s podcast aims to “connect with fans”

As one of the biggest talking points of the WNBA, Angel Reese wants her podcast to be a platform where she can connect with fans while also allowing her to express more of herself.

In an interview with Complex on Tuesday, she revealed her plans for the show, emphasizing that she wants it to be “unfiltered” and also be her outlet to talk about basketball, fashion and other things she is passionate about.

“It’s another way for me to connect with my fans and reach new audiences I wouldn’t necessarily have before,” Reese said. “I mainly want this podcast to be a place for authentic and unfiltered conversations…Whether I’m sharing insights on basketball, the current trends in fashion, or the latest news in entertainment.”

Reese is the WNBA’s leading rebounder with 12.9 per game, along with 13.5 points and 1.3 steals. Whether her success on the court would translate behind a microphone remains to be seen.
